Why ConcreteCMS

ConcreteCMSWhy InDis has embraced the ConcreteCMS CMS for development of new websites?

InDis has been developing websites since 1998, and during that time, we’ve worked with many different CMS. For many years, before the advent of mainstream open-source CMSs, we developed our own InDisCMS, initially in .asp, later a parallel version in php was created, which formed the core engine(s) for many of the websites still in use today. Whilst it was flexible enough to allow any application to be developed, it required constant in-house development that was time-consuming and expensive.

As more open-source CMSs became available, the cost of developing new websites became more competitive in terms of price and time to build. We have worked with Wordpress, Drupal, and Joomla, but we always felt that they came up lacking in terms of flexibility, ease of use, and reliability. More seriously, they were very prone to security weaknesses.

Turning point: discovering ConcreteCMS

Fortunately in 2009, we discovered ConcreteCMS that did everything we wanted and more: It supports a true model-view-controller development platform, which effectively means that design, data, and functionality are kept independent of one another.

In practise, this means that you can build a website that looks great in 2017, yet can be completely redesigned in 2018—without rebuilding any of the core functionality behind the scenes. In a similar vein, if you require bespoke functionality at a later stage, you can integrate this easily as a package without breaking the underlying core engine or modifying the design.

ConcreteCMS is more than that, though. The underlying code is excellent, built by a small team of core developers. The Peer Review process ensures that only quality contributions are added to the final product. Unlike Wordpress, this means that many security vulnerabilities are prevented from infecting your site, which could allow hackers to gain access.

Aside from this, ConcreteCMS is a true CMS offering some very advanced functionality not often found in other open-source Content Management Systems. For example, ConcreteCMS offers workflows and editorial version control to allow contributors to add content, subject to editorial approval. Other benefits include the ability to develop ‘blocks/modules’ that can be added to pages to allow the editor control over their page templates layouts and functionality.

We believe that it’s one of the most customer-friendly and flexible CMSs around. It is here to stay and will become one of the heavyweights when it comes to content management on the web.
